Creative Arts Therapies
Vibrant Experiences for Individuals with Special NeedsThrough the use of the creative arts therapies, individuals with special needs, which include mental, physical or developmental disabilities, are encouraged to maximize their potential. Using music and art as a therapeutic tool, individuals address academic, motor, emotional, and social skills, as well as talents in the fine arts. Each participant receives individualized treatment with personally designed goals tailored to meet their needs. Weekly sessions are offered on an individual, paired or group basis.
Before enrollment occurs, the individual, along with a parent, caregiver, or member of the support system, meets with a therapist for an initial assessment session. Background information is obtained, and the program is discussed.
In addition to weekly sessions at The Beck Center for the Arts, the Creative Arts Therapies Department offers music and art therapy on a contractual basis to various therapeutic, rehabilitative, community, and educational agencies.
Consultation services are available by Beck therapists to evaluate current on-site programming or to discuss programming options. In-services of any length may be designed to demonstrate the use of the creative arts therapies. Presentations for community groups or professional organizations are available to meet specific needs.
The Beck Center is the first facility in Ohio to offer creative arts therapies services in a community-based agency. To arrange an initial assessment or to receive more information, please contact Tara J. Griest, MT-BC, Assoiciate Director of Creative Therapirs at 216-228-8499.
